Steve & Jill McCarthy

Steve and Jill McCarthy serve as missionaries in Uruguay. They minister in one of the most economically and politically stable countries in all of Latin America, yet one of the hardest to reach with the gospel. Steve and Jill are involved in teaching and preparing new pastors at the Bible School and in sports evangelism, using soccer as a bridge to reach the lost.  In addition, they lead Hope for Uruguay 100, an initiative that is raising up and mentoring new church planters with the hope of establishing 100 healthy churches and building 100 sanctuaries for these new and growing congregations.  Please pray for them as they serve in a place historically referred to as the "Graveyard of Latin American Missions".

OCTOBER 2025 UPDATE

Steve and Jill McCarthy have served as missionaries in Uruguay for the past 15 years. They are involved in teaching and preparing new pastors at the Bible School and in sports evangelism, using soccer as a bridge to reach the lost.  In addition, they lead Hope for Uruguay 100, an initiative that is raising up and mentoring new church planters with the hope of establishing 100 healthy churches and building 100 sanctuaries for these new and growing congregations.  To date 40 churches have planted and 31 sanctuaries built.  

We are believing with God’s help to plant and build 5 new churches in 2026.  Please pray for us as we train and mentor 5 Uruguayan couples to become the pastors of these churches, for a harvest of souls and financial provision.

OCTOBER 2024 UPDATE

After more than 11 years in Africa... we are still surprised at how much change our life overseas entails.

👉 Within the last year alone, harvest laborers with over 100 years of combined experience have transitioned out of this country to their next place of service.👉 Our own dear friends and team leaders followed God's call to a new assignment.👉 We stepped into that role and responsibility January ‘23 and lead the two teams here in the country: the original team in our capital city and the newly launched team 3 hours north of us. 👉 11 members of our capital city team moved north to launch the new team, working among another unreached people.
